2006 1.6hdi - indicators on the blink (sorry).

Ten days ago we locked our trusty Berlingo and went on holiday. On returning, unlocked the vehicle but got the usual manic 'you've done something silly' bleeping and 'Economy mode active' on the display.
The car started and ran fine and the bleeping stopped so we put it down to being one of those things.
Yesterday was the same except this time the indicators aren't working properly and their behaviour is inconsistent. Sometimes they work perfectly, sometimes you flick the switch and there's none of the usual clicking that accompanies the turn signal, and I don't think the dashboard arrows illuminate either.
Switch them off/on a few times and they start to work again, and today while waiting a long time at a junction they stopped and then restarted without intervention.
Any clues on best place to start please folks? Is the switch favourite or is there a relay perhaps, or maybe the flasher unit? I found one thread where switch cleaner on the column switch resolved an indicator problem - but what's with all the bleeping?
The car is 10 years old admittedly, but well cared for. A few weeks back it cost us an annual service, MOT, new aircon condenser, 4 new tyres, and a brake fluid change so I could do with this being a nice simple DIY fix! Thanks in anticipation.

Indicator stalk fault

When I have my headlights on the indicators become temperamental. I will signal but it goes off after a couple off flashes so have to push stalk again and keep held while turning, mainly seems to be when turning right. Also the main beams will sometimes go off by themselves while driving so have to flick stalk again to get them back on.
Is this a common fault and is there a fix?
Thanks.

Engine mounts

Which of the engine mounts, being worn, could cause the engine to 'shudder' on start up? Also when driving if you tap and release the accelerator peddle you can feel the shake in the gearstick..2007 1.9d.. thanks in advance..

Roof monted "centre console" thingy - which models have it?

Hi all Smile

Still looking around for exactly which one to buy, I saw in a car park a nice 2006 Berlingo Desire model (in a nice green colour). The owner was not around, but I (cheekily) had a peer around it. It had a fancy roof mounted console thing (at the front) that had storage space and lights etc. I though "Ooo, I like that" it would come in very handy for gadgets etc.

Question, is that standard equipment on the Desire only, or do other models have it ?

btw, Google was of little help on this occasion.

M59 1.9 Diesel ECU/BSI kit

Looking for the answer to what, I hope, is an easy question !!

Considering replacing ecu/bsi with a 'kit':
Bearing in mind the plethora of 'numbers' on ecu and bsi, which are the important ones, and how close a match is required?
Also, any words of warning ?

Many thanks in anticipation of reply.

HELP!

I bought a 2004 1.9 n/a berlingo with a goosed engine.  Engine replaced but then the electrics started doing mad things, no speedo, sidelights always on, no radio, warning lights on etc.....

Anyway, in my wisdom I bought an used BSI unit from a breakers and fitted it.  Hey presto!  Lights worked fine, wipers fine, radio worked but beeped every 3 seconds, still no speedo like & it flashes stop! All the time.  Also the brake warning light is on even though they are new and the fluid is topped up and occasionally the airbag light is on.

So, last week the battery went dead so I took it off and recharged it.  On reconnecting I'm back to square one.  lights on, no radio or wiper, horns etc....  I've tried several times to do a BSI reboot but it makes no difference.

The indicator stalk is as floppy as boneless chicken though, does that have some bearing on it?

I'm getting to the end of my teather with it even though it runs like a Swiss watch!

1.6hdi not getting to optimum temperature. And PAS leak.

Hi all,

Since I've owned this beast of a van it has never gotten to the optimum temperature and has always sat at around 60-70, the only time it creeps up is in traffic, but as soon as you drive off the temp drops straight down again.

I have already replaced the thermostat, any ideas?

Also there seems to be a fairly heavy PAS leak. I can only trace it to the union before it runs into the steering rack. Any ideas?

Many thanks.

Thanks in advance!

The reason why i am looking for it is because probably the previus owner missed to put it back when he changed the timing belt...

Yet Another Central Locking Problem

Hi folks,
Am needing some help with my Berlingo Multispace 2005 2.0L Hdi.

The central locking appears to work fine but after several minutes it unlocks its self again and the interior light goes on and off at will!
This is discharging the battery over a period of 24 hours.

I have checked the wires from the door locks to the bsi for continuity and they are fine.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi, I have a Mk2 2006 1.9d Berlingo. When I bought the vehicle the driveshaft was replaced as the bearing was shot, 12 months later it had to be replaced again. This week whilst replacing the clutch I noticed that the bearing is ahot a gain after only 14 months est 3000 miles. Is there anything that could be causing it to keep failing?

Water sloshing noise behind dashboard?

$

Hi,
I've noticed a water sloshing noise that seems to be coming from behind the dashboard, you only hear it if you turn a sharp corner either Left or Right.  Confused

I've removed the wiper panel and cleaned the scuttle out, if I pour water into the scuttle it comes out at the bottom of the wing liners straight away so I believe everything is nice and clear.
I've also checked the door drains and the sill drains and they are all clear.

I've checked the carpets and they are all dry so there is no water in the car.

My car has air conditioning, could the drain from this be blocked up and causing the water noise?

Thanks.

I have a 1.9D lingo and am changing the cambelt, i have a couple of probs
1, the crank sprocket has a shitload of play on the keyway, like a tooths worth! is this normal??

2, yeah i know i should have pinned the damn thing up, but i tippexed, and forgot to tippex the injector pump, is this just a pump and dont matter, or have i buggered up in huge fashion?

3, IF the cambelt was a tooth out, what would happen?

i changed water pump, i took the glow plugs out to make it easier to turn engine over with a socket, also fixing an oil leak on cam cover.

i need help by morning please if possible.

thanks in advance.....

Heater matrix hose "o" rings

Hello, this is my first post on here. I've been looking at the threads regarding heater matrix replacement. In one of the posts it mentions replacing the hose/matrix "O" ring seals which it says are a few pence. I've 'phoned the main agents this morning to be told that these "O" rings are not available separately and are part of the heater hose assembly (£42).

Where are the "O" rings available from? I'm assuming this is the problem, I've read the horror stories on here regarding blocked matrixs, etc but the car is low mileage and it's going to be easier and cheaper to try the seals first. Any ideas anyone?

OBD Eror Code P1351

I've just stuck one of those chinese OBD bluetooth diagnostic plugs into my Berlingo Forte 2006 1.6 HDI and it has highlighted 2 engine error codes which I wondered if anyone had seen before and could advice me what to do about them, as the car is behaving perfectly.

They are 2 P1351 codes showing the fault 'Ignition Diagnostic Monitor Input Circuit', it suggests to me that it is flagging up that there is an OBD plug in there, but I only know so much so would welcome anyone's thoughts on what I should do, if anything, about these P1351 codes? Thank you in advance.

BSI physical removal - 2003 Berlingo

$

Another 'simple' question.
Is there a special knack to removing the BSI (2003 Berlingo Multispace 1.9D)?

Can the BSI be extracted and the connectors then released, or does one have to release the connectors 'as you go'?
I have been trying to remove the BSI, but the cables seem to prevent this !
I'm wary of damaging the cables, as some of them appear rather 'thin'.
Are all the cables in that area connected to the BSI or, as seems to be the case, do some of them disappear into the nether regions under the dash?

Many thanks in anticipation of replies.
